"Cliche'"

I had some interesting dialogue with people this week in regards to relationships. A common problem that came up was the whole friend issue. I have a philosophy that when I like someone I let them know fairly early, so I can assert myself from that point. I think when you wait too long to say something a woman becomes comfortable and says I just see you as a friend. There are also situations where a lady would say "let's be friends first." which leads me to ask how do we know when exactly is the right time to say anything? You're sometimes damned if you do and damned if you don't. You wait too long and you're just a friend, then that grows into "brother", and sometimes you're relegated to friend role from jump street. Don't get me wrong I love the idea of getting to know someone and building a friendship, I think its imperative. But the whole you're brother thing...that's never pleasant to hear, I've heard it once or twice mysel...

"Holy" Matrimony?

The sanctity of marriage, always a hot button discussion. Now I know we're all not supposed to be judgmental of people's actions. But damn their actions sure spark discussion. Now I'm an avid mediatakeout.com and concreteloop.com reader. And I know for the past few months Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian have been dating. Now who am I to say hey they shouldn't get married. But there's always a bigger picture and their situation I think is a window into "America's priorities." If you were to ask me, I'd say this was a publicity stunt, strictly business. But America, what ever happened to love. Real, raw, visceral love... mutually of course. I look at this situation as getting married for the wrong reasons. As you see them you can see the ingenuity of the relationship. In an interview with "Entertainment Tonight" a reporter asked Odom "Is this love?" and Odom answered confidently...."something like that." huh?? Is that a ...

My Vibes

So lately I've been downloading some good stuff. As I listen to all these songs I realize how much music helps me. It's entertaining, it's relaxing, it's even a learning experience. I'm pretty eclectic. I think everyone has a story. In life all we do is share stories and share wisdom. Music is so instrumental it's crazy, it says so much. We usually listen to different genres depending on our moods. When I'm stressed or really relaxed, it's time for Anita Baker and Toni Braxton. When I work out its strictly rock music. When it's intimacy time i'm on my R&B. And in the middle of the day or a Thursday night it's a hip hop deal. Music is always something constant that never disappoints me and makes me feel good. Find things in your life that never let you down and keep you happy. Y'all be well.

As The Summer Dwindles

Image
Summer's seem to become a pretty special time for me every year now. I tend to think to myself a lot more. Summertime gives me the opportunity to fully evaluate myself for the new school year get refocused and in some cases stop the bullshit. Every summer since I've been in college has had it's own story. My summer after my freshman year was about me getting over someone I was unusually CRAZY for. I did a lot of thinking and had numerous conversations with people to figure out what exactly was wrong with me.... or her for that matter. But as that summer went along and I went on a cruise I realized being around people who really had your best interest at heart was a good start to starting fresh. By last summer I feel I was a lot better off emotionally and my focus was really to outdo my previous year's performance, I actually did pretty good my sophomore year. I landed a little job working with kids at this camp in Manhattan, that job took a world out of me. But the kids...

You Never Know I Guess......

So I am currently on this movie day binge I guess. I just finished watching sex and the city and now I'm on to this movie called "Purple Violets." And the plot is so unique and makes me wonder if situations like this really happen. So these two ex-couples meet up after years of not seeing each other. Now both ex-couples give it a shot once again. And in both instances they are successful one more immediate than the other. But it just got me to thinking maybe wasting time feeling bad about something is exactly that...wasting time. I guess it's true when they say something that's meant to be will come around again...I thought it was interesting.

Lessons Learned

Today I got back from Canada and my family's 13th Bi- annual reunion. This was my 3rd consecutive one which is a new record for me,lol. I feel so good to have been apart of this one. This reunion marked to me a new phase in my life. The premise of us going to Canada was really a sentimental thing. Back in 1989 the first official reunion was i Canada, and since then it has not been in Canada. So it was great that I was at the first one as a new born, and now 20 years later a grown man, that's my personal thing. But the family's real reason for going back to Canada was to really visit that side of the family's oldest living member who could no longer attend the other reunions in other places due to health reasons. This man i was sure didn't remember me... but he actually did. It kinda suprised me but also made me feel good. He had this great sense of humor even in his state, and I felt good to be one of the people to bring him some happiness in wake of all his othe...

Don't Feel Guilty.......

Image
On Wednesday I head to another family reunion, my third in a row, which is now my longest streak, lol. Although it has been a big sort of headache putting together, the time has come to become a little excited about it. Anyone that knows me knows I LOVE my family. I've been fortunate to be surrounded by people that really care for me and are really individuals in their own rights. But I write tonight to discuss something else. More times than not people who don't have such great relationships with their families tend to be a bit bitter when they see you enjoying that type of relationship. It's not their fault and you should be understanding if they do come off bitter. But don't ever allow these people to make you feel like you're spoiled to have a good family, or that its whack. Appreciate your family, and for those people who don't have supportive ones, how about you try your best to support them and give them the support they need to feel that feeling. Don...
