Pop Tarts
50 cent has this line in a Ja Rule diss song where he says "You's a pop tart sweetheart; you soft in the middle" it's a funny line but it's analogy I always use when referring to someone being quote unquote soft. I think we all have a soft spot for maybe one or two significant people (lovers) in our lives. For whatever reason some people will just be that special to you. I don't think there's anything wrong with this just as long as you being vulnerable to them isn't toxic to yourself.
What am I saying? It's very possible sometimes we may care too much for the wrong people. This varies by case, and everyone may not experience it it. But there are some people whom you have a special place in your heart for who may continuously hurt or disappoint you. This is when I would say you have to re-evaluate some things. It's never easy to let go of someone you care about. At the same token you also can't continue to have your emotions be at the mercy of someone else. It's a rough thing to constantly deal with. They say the first step is admitting your condition. Don't let that foolish pride get in the way of what's really going on. The truth is that you're a pop tart... we essentially all are. Special people just push those buttons. Once you realize investing all these feelings or thoughts isn't good for you, you have to begin to ween off of them a bit. Maybe a year or two ago I wrote a post called "Guilty Pleasures." It was basically similar to this and asked the question of why we always like what's bad for us. I guess you could call this post a sequel to that.
You have to begin to take some action. If you want someone to listen to you and they aren't, you have to let them live. If someone doesn't see what you clearly see, then you have to step aside and just let them see it. Ultimately we always bring the frigging horse to the water and the horse never wants to drink it #gofigure. It's not wrong to have a soft spot for people, we're human. But we have to learn to have the soft spot for the right people, the people who deserve it and don't make us feel wrong about being pop tarts for them.
