Chivalry v.s. Stupid Chivalry

Over the years there's a phrase I've heard all too often from many ladies. They say that chivalry is dead. Chivalry is defined as the sum of the ideal qualifications of a knight, including courtesy, generosity, valor, and dexterity in arms. How this is relative today? These actions and characteristics are manifested in being respectful, generous, being protective to a degree, and being a gentleman. Many other women ask the question "Is chivalry dead?" I say it never died. Trace back to medieval times when this term was coined, of course there will be those who were chivalrous and those who aren't. same goes as for today. For those who feel chivalry is dead, you're wrong for generalizing number one. And if you haven't experienced someone being chivalrous first hand, you have to give them an opportunity to either prove you wrong or right. You also have to allow someone to be chivalrous within their means, this mostly pertain to finances, meet someone half way sometimes maybe, understand some things. And for the fellas always maintain respect while on a date and be a gentleman.
With that said there is something called "Stupid Chivalry." Dr. Laura Schlessinger defines this as Getting involved with the wrong woman (weak, flaky, damaged, needy, desperate, stupid, untrustworthy, immature, etc.) you think that your love will save/transform her. For the fellas always be reminded while being chivalrous remain logical. Every woman may not be for you. You can't enter situations trying to be the the savior, the hero. The most you can do is be you and hope that's appreciated. But don't break your back because it may be expected of you. Be who you are and operate within yourself and within your means, and hope that is appreciated.
How yall feel?

  1. I completely disagree that being chivalrous has anything to do with being finance. The act of being chivalrous is about how the man makes the woman feel. He can have absolutely no money and make a woman feel like she's on top of the world. It's about being a true gentleman and showing that you can put someone else first from time to time.
